Chapter 17
Whisper's Redemption
The immediate threat is neutralized. Whisper, the small hamlet, is finally safe, the werewolves exonerated. The villagers breathe a collective sigh of relief, their fear replaced by a hesitant gratitude. But Bishop’s victory is a hollow one. The deep-seated corruption he uncovered leaves a bitter taste, the 'good' he fought for tainted by the darkness within the very institution he represents. Something that looked alarmingly like respect.
“So,” Bishop drawled, sheathing the Soul Sun, the familiar hum of its power a comforting thrum against his thigh. “That’s that, then. Pack of overgrown curs cleared their name, villagers get to sleep in their beds without fear of being gnawed on. Everyone’s happy.” He punctuated the statement with a dry, humorless chuckle.
