He realizes that returning or staying comes with a profound cost, a transformation that will irrevocably alter who he is.
The air, if it could be called air, hummed with a silent crescendo, a resonance that vibrated not in his ears, but deep within the marrow of his bones. Da PrEAChEr stood, or perhaps floated, for the concept of grounding had long since dissolved. The blinding white he had chased, the absolute nullity he had sought, had not been an end, but a doorway. And now, on the other side, the light remained, a pervasive, all-encompassing luminescence that offered no shade, no shadow, no respite. It was the light of ultimate truth, he suspected, but truth without context was a blade without a hilt.
He remembered the final moments before the transition, the intoxicating plunge into the abyss of nothingness. His mind, a tempest of thought and worry, had stilled, each ripple smoothed until only a placid surface remained. Then, the surge, the uncontainable energy he had somehow harnessed, had lashed out, propelling him beyond the veil. He had felt a profound sense of accomplishment, a victory over the limitations of his own being. But this victory was proving to be a lonely one.
“This is it, then?” he murmured, his voice a faint echo in the boundless expanse. “The height of knowing, the pinnacle of thought, and I am left with… this?” He gestured with an unseen hand, encompassing the infinite, featureless glow. It was a place of pure potential, he knew, a canvas awaiting the artist’s stroke. Yet, he was the artist, and his palette was empty, his brushes brittle.
