The air in Rion’s room crackled, not with the usual static of a summer storm, but with a chill that seeped into Karmaine’s very bones. It was a cold that had no business being there, a tangible presence that seemed to suck the warmth from the walls, from the toy dinosaur perched on the shelf, from Rion himself, huddled beneath his superhero duvet, eyes wide and unblinking. The familiar dread, the one that had once sent Karmaine scrambling for the light switch at the slightest creak, coiled in his gut. But this time, it was different. This time, the dread wasn't for himself. It was for the small, trembling form beside him.

“Daddy,” Rion whispered, his voice a thin thread of sound against the encroaching silence. “It’s… it’s moving.”

Karmaine followed Rion’s gaze, his own heart hammering a frantic rhythm against his ribs. The shadows in the corner, usually just an absence of light, seemed to deepen, to writhe. They coalesced, not into a shape he could define, but into a palpable void, a hungry emptiness that pulsed with an unseen malevolence. It was the Shadow Weaver, he knew it. The whispers from the previous nights, the growing unease that had settled over the neighborhood like a suffocating blanket, had led to this. This was no longer a game of imagined monsters; this was the real thing, the darkness that fed on fear, the entity that had been weaving its insidious web.
