The city slept, a vast, shimmering tapestry of lights spread out beneath my penthouse window. New York, my kingdom, pulsed with a life I commanded, a silent testament to the fear I’d instilled, the respect I’d earned. But tonight, the usual hum of power felt distant, replaced by a hollow echo that resonated deep within me. A phantom ache, a forgotten whisper, had begun to stir.

It started subtly, a prickle at the edge of my awareness, like a forgotten scent on the wind.
