Crimson Silk stood by the high, arched window, the city sprawling beneath her like a tapestry of flickering embers. The victory from the previous bout had been sweet, a sharp tang of triumph on her tongue, but it had curdled into something less palatable in the days since. The Weaver’s cryptic pronouncements, once guiding stars, now felt like veiled manipulations, each carefully chosen word a stone placed upon a path she no longer trusted.

She traced the condensation on the glass, her mind replaying fragmented whispers overheard in the shadowed alcoves of the tournament grounds. Words like ‘conduit,’ ‘unbinding,’ and ‘the Great Unmaking’ had snagged on her awareness, sharp and dissonant against the usual clamor of boastful fighters and eager patrons. They spoke of a purpose far grander, and far more sinister, than the mere acquisition of wealth and renown that fueled this blood-soaked spectacle.

A soft rustle of fabric announced the Weaver’s arrival. Crimson Silk didn’t turn. She could sense them, a subtle shift in the room's energy, a deliberate stillness that was more pronounced than any movement.
