Chapter 6
Episode 6
Prince Vlad Protects Amy's Life and Her Honour (1970 -1972) Fort Knox Kentucky, My Cruel Father the Colonel retired 6/30/1972 and forces 12 tear old Ne to move to Bar Harbor Maine
The humid air of Alexandria, Virginia, clung to me like a second skin, a familiar weight that had settled over my young life for the past few months. The scent of honeysuckle and distant exhaust fumes was the soundtrack to our waiting, a temporary lull before the inevitable next deployment. It was 1970, and the world outside our small, temporary home felt vast and unpredictable, a stark contrast to the quiet certainty that Vlad, my constant companion, provided.
He was always there, a shadow of crimson and ancient strength, his presence a silent reassurance against the anxieties that fluttered in my chest. I was ten now, a kaleidoscope of memories already etched with his watchful gaze. He’d appear in the periphery, a flicker of a dark cloak against the sun-drenched walls, or a whisper of a name on the wind when I felt most alone. My father, the Colonel, a man of rigid discipline and booming pronouncements, remained oblivious, his world a landscape of military strategy and post-war anxieties. He saw only the dutiful daughter, the one who recited her lessons and curtsied with practiced grace. He didn't see the girl who held whispered conversations with a specter, the girl whose honor was guarded by a prince from centuries past.
The days blurred into a comfortable monotony, punctuated by the rustle of Vlad’s spectral presence. He would sit with me as I traced the lines of maps spread across the floor, his silent commentary a subtle nudge towards understanding the world’s intricate geography. He never spoke in words I could hear with my ears, but his meaning was as clear as a spoken sentence, a gentle guidance that always steered me away from peril. He seemed to shimmer at the edges of my vision when my father’s temper flared, a calming aura that seemed to dissipate the worst of the storm before it could fully break over me.
