Chapter 4
Episode 4
Prince Vlad Protects Amy's Life and Her Honour (1967 -1969) Fort Leonard Missouri
The air in Fort Leonard, Missouri, hung thick and humid, a stark contrast to the crisp, pine-scented breezes of Carson. It was 1967, and the world was buzzing with a restless energy, a symphony of change that even a child could feel humming beneath the surface of everyday life. For me, that hum was a familiar, comforting rhythm, a constant presence woven into the fabric of my young existence. Vlad was here, as he always was.
He was a shadow at the edge of my vision, a whisper in the rustling leaves of the oak trees that dotted the post. When a group of older boys, their faces etched with the cruel humor of youth, cornered me near the PX, their intentions a palpable threat, I felt a sudden chill, a prickling sensation that ran down my spine. Then, a stillness descended. The boys faltered, their bravado evaporating like mist in the sun. They mumbled apologies, their eyes darting nervously, and hurried away, leaving me unharmed, bewildered, and strangely soothed. Vlad had been there, his unseen gaze a shield, his presence a formidable, silent warning.
