The world still sees him through a haze of blood and fear, a caricature painted by frightened scribes and fearful historians. They whisper tales of the Impaler, of a monster born of darkness. But they do not know him, not truly. They have never felt the quiet strength that emanates from him, the fierce protectiveness that has been my constant companion since I was a child. They have never witnessed the gentle echo of his love, a love that transcends centuries and whispers through the veil of time.
Each night, as the edges of consciousness blur and the day’s anxieties recede, I feel his presence. It is a familiar warmth, a steady anchor in the swirling currents of my dreams. Two pairs of eyes, luminous and ancient, gleam in the encroaching darkness, the unmistakable gaze of wolves, his loyal companions, his silent sentinels. And beside them, a silhouette, sharp and noble against the indigo sky – Prince Vlad. He watches over me, a silent guardian, his presence a balm to my weary soul.
I wish, with every fiber of my being, that the world could see him as I do. Not as the cruel tyrant of legend, but as a man who loved his people fiercely, who fought to protect his homeland, his family, his very way of life. He was a father, a husband, a protector. The history books tell a story, yes, but it is a story filtered through the lens of fear and conquest. They fail to capture the heart, the unwavering loyalty, the profound kindness that I have been so blessed to know.
