Chapter 25
Episode 25
When My Husband starts to misbehave towards Ne things happen metaphysically and I know that it's Prince Vlad
The air in our little house, usually thick with the comforting scent of my husband’s pipe tobacco and the faint sweetness of the lemon balm growing by the kitchen window, began to shift. It wasn’t a sudden storm, but a subtle, almost imperceptible change, like the way the light dims before a thunderstorm, or the hushed anticipation in a forest just before dawn. My husband, bless his heart, was usually a steady presence, a man of habit and quiet affection. But lately, a restlessness had settled upon him, a shadow that flickered in his eyes when he thought I wasn’t looking. Little things, at first. A sharp word, a sigh that held more impatience than weariness, a faraway look that suggested his thoughts were tethered elsewhere.
I felt it before I saw it, a familiar prickle on the back of my neck, a whisper against my soul. It was the echo of Vlad. Not his physical presence, not in the way he’d been a tangible shield in my younger years, but a deeper, more ancient knowing. When my husband’s frown deepened, or his voice took on an edge that was entirely new, I would feel a distinct, ethereal pressure, as if an unseen hand was gently guiding my own, or a silent, steady gaze was holding me upright. It was Vlad, I knew. He was always there, a constant, unwavering anchor in the tempest of my life.
One evening, he was particularly distant. He sat across from me at the dinner table, his fork clinking against his plate with an unusual force. He spoke of trivial matters, the weather, the garden, but his words were like stones dropped into a well, offering no reflection. I asked him a simple question about his day, a question I’d asked a thousand times before, but his response was a terse dismissal, a wave of his hand that felt like a slap. My heart sank. This wasn't the man I loved. This was something else, something I’d encountered before in the men I’d been forced to endure.
