Unleashed Fury
Cornered by Syndicate enforcers, Lyra's latent power erupts. She unleashes a primal force, saving herself and Kael but frighteningly losing control of her abilities.
The alley reeked of stale oil and something metallic, a scent that always made my fur prickle. Neon signs from the street above bled through the grimy gaps in the corrugated iron roofs, painting the puddles of indeterminate sludge in lurid shades of pink and electric blue. Kael’s hand was clamped around my arm, his knuckles white against my leather sleeve. “This way, Lyra! They’re closing in!”
My ears swiveled, catching the heavy thud of boots on pavement, the guttural shouts of men who clearly weren’t here to offer me a cup of tea. Syndicate enforcers. The same ones who’d been lurking around the periphery of my life for weeks, their eyes like chips of obsidian, always watching. Now they were here, and they weren’t playing games.
“Who are they?” I gritted out, my tail lashing behind me, a nervous counterpoint to Kael’s frantic tugging.
