The air still tasted of ozone and shattered magic, a metallic tang that clung to my tongue like a bad memory. Vane was gone, a whisper of corrupted energy dissipating into the newly washed dawn. The Crimson Moon, a bruised stain on the bruised sky, was finally beginning to fade, its malevolent glow replaced by the hesitant blush of sunrise. Below, Neo-Veridia stirred, a city reborn from the shadow’s suffocating grip.

My tail, usually a nervous barometer of my emotions, was still. My ears, no longer twitching at phantom threats, lay flat against my skull. The raw, untamed power that had surged through me, a wildfire I’d barely contained, had receded, leaving behind a quiet hum, a resonant resonance with the city itself. It wasn't gone, not entirely. It was a part of me now, woven into the fabric of my being like the intricate circuits of a new gadget.

Kael was beside me, his usual cynicism replaced by a weary relief. He was leaning against a jagged piece of debris that had once been Vane’s meticulously crafted control panel, his gaze sweeping over the awakening city. “Well,” he said, his voice raspy, “that was… a lot.”
