Chapter 4

A Brother's Resolve

The gnawing hunger becomes unbearable. Issac and Jeff are on the brink, their fangs aching for release. The thought of draining an innocent sends shivers of revulsion through them. They recall their vows to protect the vulnerable, a stark contrast to their predatory nature. Issac, ever pragmatic, suggests seeking out animal blood, a distasteful but necessary compromise. Jeff, however, rebels against the idea, his artistic sensibilities recoiling at the thought of such a brutal act. They argue, their new vampiric nature amplifying their emotions. Issac’s resolve hardens; he will not let his brother become a monster. They decide to seek alternatives, no matter how dangerous.

The gnawing hunger was a physical ache, a hollow emptiness that clawed at my insides. It had been days since the change, days of suppressing the primal urge that screamed for release. My fangs, sharp and alien, ached with a phantom throb, a constant reminder of the predator lurking beneath the surface. Jeff, my brother, my responsibility, was suffering too. I saw it in the way his eyes darted, the subtle tremor in his hands, the way he’d flinch away from his own reflection, as if repulsed by the creature he’d become.

“We can’t keep this up, Issac,” Jeff rasped, his voice raw. He was slumped against the cold, damp brick wall of an alleyway, the sickly yellow glow of a distant street lamp doing little to pierce the oppressive gloom. He pulled his worn jacket tighter, a futile attempt to ward off a chill that had nothing to do with the night air. “I’m starting to see… things. In the shadows. They look like prey, fuck I can't it's all I fucking think about”

My own stomach churned, not from hunger, but from the realization that he was right. The thought of sinking my teeth into warm flesh, of drawing life from another being, sent a wave of revulsion through me. It was a violation, a desecration of the vows we’d made to each other, to protect the innocent, to never become the monsters we’d been so desperate to escape.
