The air in the sterile corridor hung thick with the metallic tang of dried blood and something else, something acrid and alien. Dr. Aris Thorne ran a gloved hand over the cool, unyielding metal of the door, his gaze fixed on the faint crimson stain seeping from beneath. It was from here, from this very spot, that a figure known only as ‘Techy’ had emerged, a spectral presence in the echoing silence of the quarantined zone. Thorne remembered the frantic call, the disbelieving tremor in the voice on the other end, the stark, chilling image of Zach and Oliver sprawled on the floor, their bodies unnervingly still. Techy had been the one to find them, the one to trigger the alarm, the one who, through a series of calculated actions, had inadvertently pulled Thorne and Lena into the deepening abyss.

“Anything?” Lena’s voice, a low murmur, cut through the oppressive quiet. She stood a few paces back, her posture taut, her eyes scanning the surroundings with an almost predatory alertness. Her resourcefulness was a lifeline in this suffocating labyrinth, a stark contrast to Thorne’s analytical, often haunted, approach.

Thorne shook his head, the gesture tight. “Nothing. No signs of forced entry, no indication of what happened before… before Techy found them.” He paused, the word ‘found’ feeling increasingly hollow, deceptive. “It’s like this whole section was scrubbed clean, except for them.”
