Chapter 6
The Breaking Point
The weight of Gary's confession and Maria's overwhelming emotions culminate in a dramatic ultimatum.
The words hung in the air, heavy and suffocating, like a fog rolling in from the unforgiving sea. Gary had finally done it. He’d laid bare the truth about Lou, the tangled mess of his past that had festered for so long, a secret poison seeping into the very foundations of their life together. Maria stood frozen, the familiar hum of the street outside fading into a distant thrum, her world narrowing to the man before her and the devastating confession echoing in her ears.

Then, the dam broke. It wasn't a gentle thaw, but a violent eruption, a maelstrom of emotions that threatened to tear her apart. Fury, sharp and hot, blazed through her veins, fueled by years of unanswered questions and gnawing doubts. How could he? How could he have kept this from her, from them? Her family. The thought of her children, innocent and unaware of the darkness that had brushed against their lives, ignited a protective fire that burned brighter than any personal hurt.
