Chapter 4
Shattered Trust
Maria's protective instincts clash with her hurt, leading to a raw, emotional confrontation where trust is irrevocably broken.
The words hung in the air between them, heavy and suffocating, like the humid breath of a summer storm that had been threatening for weeks. Gary had finally done it. He’d finally confessed. Something that gnawed at the edges of their seemingly happy life.

A name that had surfaced before, a ghost from Gary’s past that had always sent a tremor of unease through Maria. He’d always been vague, dismissive even, when she’d dared to inquire. A brief, regrettable entanglement, he’d called it. A mistake he’d long since put behind him.
