The air in the Lumina Atrium, usually alive with the gentle hum of residual magic and the murmur of students, felt thick, almost suffocating. It was a stillness that prickled the skin, a prelude to something significant. We’d been called here, the four of us, by Professor Elara, her face etched with a concern that was more pronounced than usual. A faint sheen of sweat glistened on her brow, and her normally steady hands trembled as she gestured towards the center of the grand hall.
“Students,” she began, her voice a low, resonant tone that struggled to cut through the oppressive quiet, “we have… an unexpected visitor.”
My eyes, along with Ayani’s, Emiliano’s, and Santiago’s, were drawn to the shimmering, iridescent pool that usually served as a tranquil centerpiece for our contemplation. But today, it was disturbed, not by ripples of water, but by a strange, pulsing luminescence emanating from its depths. It was a light that shifted, from emerald green to sapphire blue, then to a deep, pulsating violet, casting eerie shadows that danced across the mosaic floor.
