The Message Unfolds
Amanda and Emiliano find more fragments of the mysterious message, piecing together the supposed ritual. The legend speaks of a 'centenary' event, adding to the urgency.
The air in the restricted section of the library always felt thicker, charged with the dust of forgotten spells and the hushed secrets of countless years. It was here, tucked away amongst tomes bound in dragonhide and scrolls brittle with age, that Emiliano and I found ourselves once more. The previous day's “unfortunate accident”—a cascade of enchanted books that had nearly crushed Ayani—had only deepened our unease. It felt too coincidental, too… deliberate. And then there was the torn scrap of parchment, discovered near the scene, bearing the same strange, angular script as the initial cryptic invitation to the library.
“Another piece,” Emiliano murmured, his brow furrowed as he carefully unfolded the fragile paper. It was smaller than the last, a sliver of what must have once been a larger document. The ink, a deep, unsettling indigo, seemed to shimmer faintly under the dim light of our summoned glow-orbs. “See? The symbols are similar. It’s definitely from the same source.”
I leaned closer, my heart thrumming a nervous rhythm against my ribs. The first fragment had spoken of shadows and a slumbering power. This one… this one was more specific. It spoke of a cycle, a turning of ages. “’When the moon bleeds and the stars align astride the serpent’s tail…’” I read aloud, my voice barely a whisper. “What does that even mean? Serpent’s tail? Is that an astrological thing?”
