The night before the associate's planned climax. Amanda and Emiliano prepare their counter-strategy, setting a trap for the illusionist.
The air in our dormitory room hung thick with anticipation, a palpable hum that vibrated just beneath the surface of the quiet. Outside, the moon, a sliver of pure silver, cast long, dancing shadows across the manicured lawns of Cora Amauta. It was the eve of deception, the night before the illusionist, Facundo’s shadowy subordinate, planned to unleash his final, most devastating act. Emiliano sat cross-legged on his bed, his brow furrowed in concentration as he meticulously rearranged a scattering of enchanted pebbles on a worn, leather-bound map. Each pebble represented a student, a teacher, a known location within the school’s sprawling grounds.
“Are you sure about this, Amanda?” he murmured, his voice low and steady, a stark contrast to the frantic thrumming in my chest. “Setting the trap here, in the Great Hall? It’s so… exposed.”
I paced the small space between our beds, my fingers tracing the intricate patterns on my robes. “It has to be. The illusionist thrives on misdirection, on making us believe the impossible is real. The Great Hall, with its high ceilings and grand illusions, is the perfect stage for his final act. And, by extension, our trap.” I paused, my gaze sweeping over the map spread before him. “We know he’s been using minor enchantments to create the illusion of danger, the whispers of the Centenary Jaguar, the staged accidents. But tonight, he’s going for the grand finale. He’ll want maximum impact, maximum fear.”
