It wasn't the peaceful quiet of study, but the tense hush that precedes a storm. Every shadow seemed to lengthen, every creak of the ancient stone building felt like a whispered threat. And I, Amanda Ayani Santiago, felt it too, a cold knot tightening in my stomach. It had started with the message, the cryptic instructions to summon the Centenary Jaguar, and now, the ‘accidents’ were piling up like fallen leaves after a gale.

Emiliano, ever the picture of calm analysis, was poring over a tattered scroll in the library, his brow furrowed in concentration. Beside him, Santiago, bless his eager heart, was trying to decipher the runes on a shard of what looked suspiciously like a broken potion bottle, his tongue poking out between his teeth. Ayani, meanwhile, was meticulously cataloging the injuries reported in the infirmary, her expression a mixture of concern and professional detachment.

“Anything, Em?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. The library, usually my sanctuary, felt suffocating. The weight of what was happening pressed down on me, a physical burden.
