Chapter 7
A Gilded Cage
Silas orchestrates a series of incidents designed to sow chaos and distrust among Katja's followers. He isolates the Queen, tightening his grip through calculated deception and fear.
The air in the Empress’s chambers, usually thick with the scent of rare orchids and the faintest whisper of decaying velvet, felt stagnant. It clung to the heavy brocade curtains, to the polished obsidian of the vanity, to Katja herself, a silken shroud that refused to dissipate. He’d spoken of a burgeoning discontent, of ancient rivalries resurfacing, of whispers that threatened to undermine the very foundations of her rule. He’d spoken with such conviction, such earnest concern, that Katja, ever vigilant, had found herself listening, dissecting his words, searching for the truth buried beneath the layers of his carefully manufactured loyalty. And, to her growing dismay, she had found… fragments. Echoes of past unrest, whispers of old grievances that she had believed long buried.
