After William points at Kira from across the street and walks away, police lose him in an alley. Renfro returns to inform the group. A new text from William taunts them, and traffic cameras reveal a possible accomplice following his car. Kira faces the reality that William's network may extend beyond himself. Renfro pushes for the TRO and decides to hold ground, waiting for William to make a mistake. The chapter ends with a forward hook: a text declaring it's now personal.
Kira’s breath caught in her throat. The smile on William’s face was calm, almost amused, as if he had been waiting for this moment. His hand remained raised, finger pointed at her through the glass. Then he lowered it slowly, turned, and began walking away down the sidewalk.
“He’s leaving,” Josh said, his voice tight.
Renfro was already speaking into her radio. “All units, suspect moving south on Fourth Avenue. Gray jacket, dark pants. Approach with caution. Do not lose visual.”
