Kira, Carol, Josh and Aunt Louise decide to go to the police station with their evidence instead of leaving town. They spot William watching as they drive away, and Kira receives a text saying he'll be waiting when they return. The chapter ends with them entering the station lobby to report the stalking again.
The living room felt smaller than it had an hour ago. Kira sat on the couch, her hands folded in her lap, watching the sun creep across the floor. Her phone lay on the coffee table, screen dark, but she could still see William's words burned into her mind.
Carol paced near the window, arms crossed. “We should go. Pack the car and be on the road before noon.”
“And go where?” Kira asked. “Another aunt’s house? A motel? He’ll find us. He always does.”
