"He trusts me," Maya said, her voice low, a murmur against the city’s distant hum. She was perched on the edge of her worn armchair, a sheaf of papers spread across the coffee table between them. "He thinks I'm just another eager historian, one who can identify the provenance, authenticate the pieces… make them look legitimate before he moves them on. He’s got a network, Ethan. A very sophisticated one."
Ethan leaned forward, his gaze sweeping over the documents. Auction house catalogs, shipping manifests, encrypted emails – a tangled web of illicit transactions. "And you’ve been feeding him information, haven't you? Playing the part."
