He’d expected a hardened criminal, a creature of the night, not this… this art historian whose brief, intriguing presence at a museum gala had somehow lodged itself in his memory.
“So,” Ethan began, his voice a low rumble, deliberately casual, though his gut churned with a potent cocktail of adrenaline and something else, something far more unsettling. “Claw. Quite the reputation you’ve built.”
Maya offered a small, humorless smile. “Reputations are like shadows, Detective. They can be cast in any light, and often distort what’s truly there.”
