Lyra's Insight

Lyra traced the condensation on the grimy windowpane, her breath misting the already dim glass. Outside, the city sighed, a low rumble of distant traffic and the perpetual whisper of wind through skeletal buildings. It was a sound Elara had grown accustomed to, a constant lullaby of decay, but tonight, it felt heavier, charged with an unspoken tension. Lyra had called her here, to this small, cluttered room above a defunct bakery, a place that smelled faintly of stale yeast and forgotten dreams.

“You wanted to see me?” Elara asked, her voice tight. The air in the room seemed to press in on them, thick with unspoken secrets. Silas had been distant since their last meeting, his usual gruff reassurances replaced by a gnawing worry that Elara couldn't quite decipher. She felt it too, a prickle of unease that had settled deep within her bones.

Lyra turned from the window, her eyes, usually bright and full of a mischievous sparkle, were clouded with a strange sort of resolve. “Sit, Elara. We need to talk about… possibilities.”
