The air in the training chamber hummed with a barely contained energy. It was a place built for focus, for the honing of abilities that twisted and shimmered like heat haze on a summer road, though summer was a forgotten concept in their city of perpetual twilight. Elara stood opposite Silas, her knuckles white as she gripped an invisible force. Sweat beaded on her brow, not from exertion, but from the sheer effort of holding back the tide of her own nascent power. Silas watched her, his gaze steady, his presence a calming anchor in the swirling chaos of her mind.

"Breathe, Elara," he said, his voice a low rumble that seemed to vibrate through the very stones of the chamber. "Don't fight it. Let it flow."

She tried. She really did. But every time she thought she had a handle on it, a tendril of raw energy would lash out, scorching the training dummy or, worse, sending a jolt of pure panic through her own veins. It was like trying to hold water in her hands; the more she squeezed, the faster it slipped through her fingers.
