The air inside Kaelen’s stronghold was thick with a humming, dissonant energy, a palpable thrum that vibrated in Elara’s bones. It was a stark contrast to the muted, perpetual twilight of the city outside, a place where shadows clung like old coats and secrets festered. Here, within these obsidian walls, the air crackled with a dangerous, manufactured brilliance. Kaelen, a man who wielded conviction like a weapon, had gathered those whose gifts, like his own, had become twisted by ambition or despair.
“Stay close, Elara,” Silas murmured, his voice a low rumble against the rising cacophony. His hand, steady and warm, rested on her shoulder for a fleeting moment, an anchor in the swirling chaos. Lyra, beside them, her eyes wide but resolute, clutched a small, intricately carved wooden charm, her knuckles white.
They moved through vast, echoing chambers, the walls lined with strange, pulsating crystals that cast an eerie, shifting light. The very architecture seemed to defy logic, twisting and contorting as if it were alive. Corridors that should have led forward instead spiraled back, and doors shimmered, appearing and disappearing with a disorienting flicker.
