The air in the training chamber hummed with a nervous energy, a palpable tension that clung to Elara like the perpetual twilight outside. Dust motes danced in the few shafts of light that pierced the gloom, illuminating the worn stone floor and the determined set of Elara’s jaw. Silas stood a respectful distance away, his expression a mixture of encouragement and apprehension. Lyra watched from the doorway, her hands clasped, a silent prayer on her lips.

“Remember what I told you, Elara,” Silas’s voice was a low rumble, steadying. “Focus. Don’t let the surge overwhelm you. Guide it, don’t be swept away.”

Elara nodded, her eyes squeezed shut. She could feel it, the nascent power stirring within her, a tempest waiting to be unleashed. It was like a thousand tiny sparks igniting, a warmth that spread through her veins, then a pressure, building and building. She imagined it as a river, turbulent and wild, and her task was to build dams, to channel its flow, not to let it flood the banks.
