Shadowy, amorphous creatures, drawn by the disturbance, begin to coalesce from the environment, their forms shifting and menacing. Ashley, driven by primal maternal instinct, shields her children, her fear a palpable thing, but beneath it, a nascent courage begins to bloom. Ashley didn’t answer, couldn’t answer. She pulled Kael close, his small hand slipping into hers. With one last, defiant glance at Leo, who was beginning to stir, his eyes narrowing with dawning comprehension and fury, Ashley plunged forward. They stepped into the shimmering tear, a sensation like diving into cool water, followed by a dizzying lurch. The world dissolved into a kaleidoscope of impossible colors, a symphony of unheard sounds. Then, with a gentle thud, they landed.
