Sofia takes the fifth shard and hurries onward as Solitary Ones approach, reaching a sealed door that awaits the sixth shard.
The figure’s face was lined with sorrow, its eyes holding a depth of grief that made Sofia’s chest ache. The shards in her pocket hummed softly, the melody shifting into something like a slow, lamenting sigh.
“You were the one who sang?” Sofia asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “The day the city fell?”
The figure nodded, lowering the coral spear until its tip touched the water. “I was the Keeper of the Tide Song. My name is Thalia. I was tasked with maintaining the harmony that bound the city to the sea.”
