Chapter 4
Chapter 4: The Tide Song
Sofia enters the Hall of Tides, meets the echo of a child named Elara, and revives the Tide Song by tapping her shards in a pattern. She receives the third shard (teardrop) and chooses the wave arch leading to the Sunken Gardens, warned of the Solitary Ones.
The door clicked shut behind Sofia, sealing her in the Hall of Tides. The city’s hum deepened, vibrating through her bones. The corridor stretched ahead, lined with tall stone columns that rose into shadow. Water rippled across the floor, ankle-deep, reflecting a pale light that came from nowhere and everywhere. The air smelled of salt and wet stone.
She lifted the spiral shard. Its surface caught the light, casting a dim glow on the columns. Close to the walls, the water darkened, and she remembered Lyra’s warning: Do not touch the walls, or the water will rise.
Sofia stepped carefully in the center of the corridor. Each footfall sent rings across the water. The columns stood in pairs, and between them, the stone was covered in fine carvings—fish, waves, spirals. She kept her eyes ahead, watching for gaps.
