Chapter 4
Echoes in the Dark
Elder Hoot guides Luna, urging her to embrace her connection to shadows. She struggles with self-doubt, her latent magic a flickering ember.
The forest floor was a tapestry of muted browns and weary greens, a stark contrast to the vibrant hues Luna remembered from her former home. Now, every rustle of leaves, every snap of a twig, was a symphony of scarcity, a constant reminder of the gnawing emptiness in her belly. Elder Hoot’s perch was high in the ancient oak, a sentinel of wisdom whose amber eyes seemed to pierce through her deepest insecurities. He had spoken of prophecies, of a Shadow Cat, and of a balance to be restored, but to Luna, these words felt like echoes from a world she no longer belonged to.

Luna flattened her ears, her sleek, dark fur prickling. Kin? The shadows were where she hid, where she felt most alone, most exposed. She remembered the playful chases in sun-dappled clearings, the warmth of her mother’s fur, the comforting rumble of her pride’s purrs. Those memories felt like faded dreams, distant and unreachable. Now, the forest was a place of sharp edges and hidden dangers, and the shadows were her only allies, and not very friendly ones at that.
