Elias traced the cool, smooth surface of the ring on his left hand, a simple band of brushed silver that felt both alien and oddly familiar against his skin. It had been there, nestled amongst the worn leather of his wallet, when he’d first woken up in the unfamiliar room after the…dust storm. He’d thought he was building something new, something entirely separate from the shadows that had once consumed him. Now, it seemed, the foundations of his new life were unexpectedly intertwined with the old.
