The air in the abandoned warehouse hung thick with the scent of dust and decay, a fitting tomb for the life Elias Thorne had desperately tried to bury. Moonlight, fractured by grimy panes of glass, cast long, skeletal shadows across the concrete floor. He stood at the heart of it all, the quiet storm that had once been the Obsidian Wing’s most potent weapon. Across from him, silhouetted against a broken skylight, stood Silas. His brother. The architect of Elias’s shadowed existence.
“Seven years, Elias,” Silas’s voice, a low rumble that vibrated with a familiar, unsettling authority, cut through the silence. “Seven years you’ve been playing at being someone else. Someone… ordinary.” He chuckled, a dry, rasping sound. “It never suited you.”
Elias’s jaw tightened. He’d rehearsed this moment a thousand times in his mind, each iteration a desperate plea for peace, for an ending that didn’t involve violence. But seeing Silas, the undeniable weight of his presence, the casual cruelty in his eyes, extinguished that hope like a snuffed candle. “I’m not playing, Silas. This is my life now.”
