Elias makes a definitive choice. He may propose to Seraphina, solidifying his commitment to their future, or a climactic event forces his hand, revealing his true nature.
The aroma of roasted chicken and rosemary, usually a comforting balm to Elias’s frayed nerves, today felt like a gilded cage. He watched Seraphina across the small, candlelit table in their modest apartment, her laughter bubbling like a clear stream. It was a sound he’d chased for seven years, a melody he’d almost forgotten existed in the cacophony of his former life. Tonight, however, the melody was underscored by a discordant hum of dread.
He’d seen the glint of it earlier, a fleeting reflection in a shop window as they walked home, a shimmer of something impossibly familiar. A silhouette, sharp and precise, moving with the silent grace of a predator. He’d dismissed it as a trick of the light, a phantom born of his own lingering anxieties. But the feeling had settled, a cold weight in his gut, a primal instinct screaming that he was no longer alone, that the walls he’d so meticulously constructed were beginning to crumble.
“You’re quiet tonight, Eli,” Sera said, her brow furrowing with a gentle concern that twisted his insides. She reached across the table, her fingers, warm and soft, brushing against his. “Everything alright?”
