The polished obsidian streets of Neo-Nyan City gleamed under the twin moons, reflecting the opulent glow of the feline aristocracy's towers. Commander Rex, a hulking mastiff whose fur was the color of a thundercloud, moved with a predatory grace that belied his immense size. His polished brass collar, emblazoned with the sigil of the High Council, glinted with each powerful stride. He was the embodiment of feline authority, a living, breathing instrument of their will. His gaze, sharp and unwavering, swept across the hushed thoroughfares, missing nothing. A stray shadow, a whispered conversation, a scent of dissent – all registered on his finely tuned senses.

Tonight, the air thrummed with a barely perceptible tension, a low hum that spoke of unease beneath the city’s gilded surface. Rex felt it, a prickle along his spine that had nothing to do with the cool night air. The whispers he’d overheard in the marketplace, the hurried glances exchanged between nervous servants, the sudden increase in patrols by his own canine brethren – it all pointed to something brewing. Something the High Council, in their perfumed chambers, had likely dismissed with a flick of a tail. But Rex knew better than to dismiss the undercurrents. He had seen the desperation in the eyes of the lower-class cats, the simmering resentment in the hearts of his own kind.

He passed a group of alley cats huddled together, their fur matted, their eyes darting nervously. They fell silent as he approached, their bodies tensing. Rex offered no greeting, no acknowledgment. His purpose was not to mingle, but to enforce. He was the shield, the claw, the unblinking eye of the feline order. He continued his patrol, his senses on high alert. He detected the faint scent of tuna, a common enough aroma in Neo-Nyan, but tonight it seemed tinged with something else, something illicit. He followed the trail, his massive paws silent on the polished stone.
