Against all odds, a distress signal is sent. As rescue approaches, the survivors must make one final push to evade Biogen and secure their escape, forever changed by their ordeal.

The relentless downpour lashed against the makeshift shelter, each drop a tiny hammer blow against the taut canvas and the frayed nerves of the survivors. Anya huddled closer to Liam, the scent of damp earth and his familiar warmth a small comfort against the roaring symphony of the storm. Outside, the jungle seemed to writhe, a living entity expressing its fury. Inside, a different kind of storm brewed – the anxious anticipation of the unknown.

“Do you think it’ll work?” Anya’s voice was a hushed whisper, barely audible over the wind’s howl. Her gaze was fixed on the cobbled-together radio transmitter, a testament to Liam’s ingenuity and their collective desperation. Wires snaked across the floor, connecting salvaged parts from the plane’s wreckage to a jury-rigged antenna that poked precariously through a gap in the shelter’s roof.

Liam’s arm tightened around her shoulders. “It has to work, Anya. We’ve tried everything else.” His usual dry wit was subdued, replaced by a weariness that seeped into the very core of his being. He’d spent days hunched over the contraption, his hands, usually so sure and steady, now calloused and stained with grime, his brow furrowed in concentration. He’d spoken of his upbringing, a blur of makeshift repairs and resourcefulness born from necessity, and Anya saw the echoes of that past in his determined focus now.
