The humid air hung thick and heavy, a palpable blanket of dread that settled over the survivors like a shroud. Anya shivered despite the oppressive warmth, her gaze fixed on the hulking silhouette of a genetically modified Triceratops, its frill a grotesque mockery of nature, its eyes glowing with an unsettling, artificial luminescence. This was no longer just a scientific expedition; it had devolved into a desperate fight for existence, a brutal ballet choreographed by the sinister machinations of Biogen.
"They're herding us," Zara's voice, usually a steady anchor, was strained, laced with a fear she fought to contain. "Towards the western ridge. Thorne wants to box us in."
Liam, his hand instinctively finding Anya’s, nodded grimly. His engineering mind, usually focused on elegant solutions, was now a whirlwind of desperate improvisation. "The terrain is too open there. If they push us into that valley, we won't have anywhere to run."
