Alex pressed on, her boots crunching on a carpet of moss and decaying leaves, each step a deliberate echo in the deepening quiet. Ben trailed behind, his senses on high alert, the usual easy banter replaced by a focused intensity. They had followed the map’s final, looping descent, a path that seemed to weave not just through the dense woods, but through time itself. The trees here were ancient, their gnarled branches reaching like skeletal fingers towards a sky that was now a bruised twilight, even though the sun had barely begun its descent.

"Anything?" Ben’s voice was a low rumble, barely disturbing the oppressive stillness.

Alex shook her head, her gaze sweeping across the dense undergrowth. "Just… more of the same. But the map insisted this was it. The convergence point." She paused, her brow furrowed. "It feels… different, though. Don't you think?"
