The sprite, with a tinkling laugh, declared Christopher could not pass. To earn the right to touch the chest, he must first answer a series of clever riddles, testing his mind and his heart.

The sprite, no bigger than Christopher’s hand, flitted above the ancient chest, its wings a blur of iridescent light. A sound like tiny bells chiming filled the clearing as it giggled, a melody both sweet and sharp. "You cannot simply *touch* it, little human," it chirped, its voice like wind chimes in a storm. "This chest holds secrets older than the trees, secrets that demand more than just curious fingers. To earn the right to even gaze upon its locks, you must play a game. A game of wits."

Christopher’s heart gave a little lurch. He’d expected a fight, perhaps, or a chase through the tangled undergrowth, but a riddle game? His mind, usually so quick to dart and weave through puzzles, suddenly felt heavy, like a stone dropped into still water. He looked at the chest, its dark wood weathered and scarred, bound with bands of a metal he didn’t recognize. It pulsed with a quiet energy, a promise of something extraordinary. He wanted to know what lay inside, but the thought of facing this mischievous guardian in a battle of brains made his palms grow clammy.

"A game?" Christopher asked, trying to keep his voice steady. He swallowed, then added, "What kind of game?"
