Christopher’s voice, soft and hesitant at first, began to weave its way through the hushed air of the Whispering Woods. He sang the first lullaby, a melody of starlight and slumber he’d found nestled within the ancient chest. The notes, delicate as butterfly wings, drifted from his lips, seeking out the shadowed corners and moss-laden branches. For a long moment, only the familiar, restless rustle of leaves answered him. The whispers, which had been his constant companions, seemed to pause, as if holding their breath.

Then, a subtle shift. It started with the flowers. The small, shy blooms that had huddled close to the earth, their colours muted and faded, began to unfurl. A faint blush of rose deepened on a wild rosehip, and the tiny bluebells, previously drooping like weary dancers, straightened their delicate heads, their hues becoming vibrant, almost electric. A shiver, not of cold but of awakening, ran through the undergrowth.

Christopher’s song continued, now imbued with a newfound confidence. He sang of moonbeams painting silver paths and of dreams that spun like silken threads. As he sang, the shadows that had flickered and danced with an unsettling energy began to soften. They stretched and elongated, not with menace, but with a languid grace, like sleepy cats uncoiling in the sun. The air, which had felt charged with an unseen tension, grew thick and sweet, perfumed with the scent of damp earth and something else… something ancient and profoundly peaceful.
