Silas reappears, more desperate this time. He reveals a crucial piece of information, a name, a location, at great personal risk. He urges Elara to act before it's too late.

The air in the deserted park was thick with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves, a mournful perfume that clung to Elara like a second skin. A persistent drizzle had begun, each drop a tiny, cold kiss against her already tender nose. She pulled the collar of her worn coat tighter, her gaze sweeping the skeletal trees and the slick, empty benches. It had been Silas’s suggestion, a meeting place as anonymous as his own existence. “The old bandstand,” he’d texted, the message appearing on her phone screen like a ghost. “Midnight. Come alone.”

Midnight had come and gone, leaving the park shrouded in a deeper, more unsettling darkness. Elara shivered, not entirely from the cold. Silas. He was a phantom, a whisper in the periphery of her increasingly fractured reality. He’d appeared before, a fleeting shadow offering cryptic warnings, a fleeting glint of understanding in eyes that held too much sorrow. Each encounter left her more disoriented, more convinced that the world she inhabited was a carefully constructed illusion.

A rustle in the undergrowth snapped her attention to the far side of the bandstand. A figure emerged from the gloom, hunched and hurried, his movements betraying a frantic urgency. Silas. He was thinner than she remembered, his face etched with a weariness that went beyond mere exhaustion. His eyes, when they met hers, were wide with a desperate plea.
