The night descended not with its usual gentle fade, but with a heavy, suffocating cloak. Elara found herself adrift in a dream, a place far removed from the sun-drenched clouds of her earlier visions. Here, the air was thick with a palpable sorrow, a weight that pressed down on her chest. She saw them, not as they were in life, but as spectral echoes: her grandmother, her mother, their forms etched with the weariness of generations. Whispers, like dry leaves skittering across a barren ground, spoke of curses, of chains that bound the spirit, passed down from mother to daughter, from ancestor to descendant. It was a tapestry woven with regret and unresolved pain, a legacy of burdens she felt herself inheriting.

Then, a jarring sound shattered the somber quiet of the dreamscape – a sharp, insistent rapping. It was the sound of the waking world intruding, a summons she couldn't ignore. The spectral figures around her began to fade, their sorrowful presence dissolving like mist. The rapping grew louder, more urgent, and Elara felt a cold dread creep into her heart. Suddenly, she was no longer in the dream but standing at her own front door, the harsh glare of a flashlight blinding her. A uniformed officer stood there, his face grim. "Elara?" he asked, his voice devoid of warmth. "We need you to come with us."

Before she could utter a word, before she could even comprehend, strong hands were on her, guiding her, pulling her away. She saw, in a horrifying flash, her grandmother and mother, their earthly forms now rising from the very ground, a macabre ballet against the backdrop of the night. A gasp escaped her lips, a sound swallowed by the sudden, unnatural stillness that followed. They were rising, yes, but then, a chilling transformation. Their spectral forms began to shimmer, to thin, to dissipate, like smoke caught in a phantom breeze. They were disappearing, vanishing into the very air they had once breathed. The shock of it, the profound, unyielding grief of this second, more terrifying departure, ripped through Elara, and she woke with a strangled cry, the phantom weight of generational curses replaced by the raw, aching emptiness of loss.
