Chapter 9
The Shadowy Entrance
Following the map's next clue, Whiskers found herself before a gaping cave. Its entrance was dark and foreboding, emitting a damp, earthy smell. Her heart pounded, but the thought of the Catnip Meadow pushed her forward.

The map, which I had unfolded carefully on a mossy log, now seemed to shimmer with a life of its own. The last riddle from Elder Owl, its words still echoing in my mind – “Where the earth breathes cold, and shadows hold sway, your path lies hidden, come what may” – pointed me, undeniably, towards this place. And here it was, a jagged tear in the side of a moss-covered hill, a gaping maw that seemed to swallow the already subdued light.
