Chapter 9
The Mocked and Bruised
I was that peasant, worthless in their eyes. Every punch, every insult, I endured. I warned them. They painted me as a nobody, but my Creator is with me.
I was that peasant. That’s what they saw, you know? Just a speck of dust on the grand tapestry of their lives, easily brushed away, easily forgotten. Worthless. They looked at me, and all they could see was the dirt under my fingernails, the frayed edges of my shirt, the hollows beneath my eyes that spoke of nights spent wrestling with demons they couldn’t even comprehend. They didn’t see the fire that burned within, the stubborn refusal to be extinguished. They didn’t see the Creator watching, the silent witness to every indignity, every sneer, every shove.
Every punch landed like a hammer blow, not just on my skin, but on my spirit. Each insult was a shard of glass, embedding itself deep, making it harder to breathe. The disrespect, oh, the disrespect was a constant, suffocating blanket. They’d chip away at you, piece by piece, until you felt like nothing but a pile of rubble. And I warned them. I tried to tell them, in my own way, that this path they were treading, this cruel, careless path, it wouldn’t end well. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” I’d murmur, my voice barely a whisper against the roar of their arrogance. “This ain’t the way.”
But they didn’t listen. They never did. Instead, they twisted my words, my intentions, my very being. They painted me as a nobody, a figment of their own disgusted imaginations. They accused me of things I never did, things that curdled my stomach just to hear. They tried to convince themselves, and everyone else, that I was nothing, that my complaints were just the ramblings of a madman, that my pain was self-inflicted. They wanted to believe that my Creator, the one who saw every tear, every silent scream, didn’t exist, or at least, didn’t care about *me*. But they were wrong. So wrong. He was there. He is here. And He’s with me, and with all of us who’ve been dragged through the mud.
