The air in the warehouse was thick with the scent of stale concrete and something that hinted at the ghost of old machinery. Dust motes danced in the slivers of sunlight that managed to pierce the grimy windows, illuminating the raw, unvarnished core of what we were building. It wasn't a palace, not by a long shot. It was a sanctuary, a forge, a place where broken pieces could be hammered into something new, something strong. Around me, a motley crew was gathering. Faces etched with stories, eyes that had seen too much, but held a flicker of something untamed, something that refused to be extinguished.

"This is it," I said, my voice a low rumble that seemed to absorb the hushed anticipation in the room. "This is where we start."

The Sentinel, whose name was Anya, stood beside me, her arms crossed, a slight frown playing on her lips. She was all sharp angles and a mind that worked like a finely tuned engine. "It's… utilitarian," she observed, her gaze sweeping over the exposed pipes and the bare concrete floor. "But I suppose function trumps form when you're building a resistance."
