A Glimmer of Trust
The Luminary reaches out to The Echo. Hesitant at first, fear in his eyes. But a shared understanding, a promise of safety, begins to mend the broken spirit.
The air in the small, rented room hung thick with the scent of stale coffee and the ghosts of unspoken fears. Dust motes danced in the single shaft of afternoon sun that speared through the grimy window, illuminating the stillness. The Luminary, his gaze usually alight with a fierce, unwavering purpose, seemed softer today, the edges of his resolve blurred by a quiet empathy. Across from him sat The Echo, a man whose very presence seemed to absorb light, his shoulders hunched as if perpetually bracing for a blow. The silence between them wasn't empty; it was a vast, echoing chasm filled with the debris of shattered lives.
"You don't gotta talk," The Luminary began, his voice a low rumble, like distant thunder. "I know the silence. It's loud, ain't it? Louder than any scream."
The Echo flinched, his eyes darting towards the door, then back to the worn linoleum floor. He smelled of fear, a metallic tang that The Luminary recognized all too well. It was the scent of a hunted animal, cornered and terrified.
