A Hero's Rest

Camilo finally rests, dreaming of dragons and daring deeds. The reality of his day was mundane, but his spirit is already soaring towards new fantastical horizons.

The day’s grand adventure, if one could call it that, had concluded with a triumphant return to the hearth, a feat that would surely be sung of in ballads for generations to come. Or at least, until dinner. Negra, my loyal hound, my furry shadow, my most trusted companion on this perilous journey, had already curled herself into a contented ball of midnight fur by the fireplace, her snores a gentle counterpoint to the crackling flames. She, at least, seemed to understand the gravity of our exploits, her dreams undoubtedly filled with the vanquished pigeons and the fearsome beast known only as ‘La Reina.’

Juliana, bless her practical heart, was already engaged in the mundane rituals of domesticity, humming softly as she tidied the living room. Her gaze, when it fell upon me, held a familiar glint of amusement, the kind that says, "Oh, Camilo, you and your wild imagination." I, however, was in no mood for such earthly concerns. I was a hero, after all. Heroes needed to rest, to recharge their valor, to contemplate the vastness of their deeds.

I sank into the worn armchair, the one with the slightly lopsided cushion that had absorbed countless hours of my profound contemplation. My mind, still buzzing with the adrenaline of our quest, replayed the highlights. The strategic deployment of my keen intellect to decipher Mother’s cryptic decree. The unwavering courage with which I faced the open street, a veritable wilderness teeming with unknown perils. And, of course, the climactic confrontation with La Reina herself, a creature of such regal bearing that even her grooming had been a trial of immense proportions.
