Chapter 13
Camilo's Inner Monologue
Camilo, though slightly disappointed 'La Reina' wasn't a dragon, starts planning his next 'epic' adventure. His imagination is already spinning new tales.
The air, once thick with the scent of impending dragon battles and the clang of imaginary swords, now settled into a more… domestic aroma. Something vaguely of lavender and perhaps a hint of freshly washed fur. I, Camilo Eloy, a warrior of twenty-five years, a seasoned adventurer if I do say so myself, stood on the precipice of… well, the pavement outside "Paws & Polish," purveyors of fine feline grooming. My heart, which moments before had thrummed with the excitement of vanquishing mythical beasts, now felt a peculiar lightness, a slight deflation. La Reina. Not a queen of a forgotten kingdom, nor a sorceress of immense power, but… a cat. A groomed cat. My sister, Juliana, a creature of remarkable practicality and, I suspect, a secret admirer of my heroic spirit, stood beside me, a faint smile playing on her lips. She knew. She always knew.
“So,” she began, her voice a soft murmur against the chirping of sparrows who, I was certain, were merely scouts for the next great challenge, “that was quite the epic quest, wouldn’t you say?”
I puffed out my chest, a habit honed through countless imaginary duels. “Indeed, sister. The trials were… formidable. The winds of uncertainty howled, the very ground beneath our feet threatened to swallow us whole, and the gaze of a thousand unseen eyes followed our every move.” I glanced at Negra, my loyal canine companion, currently sniffing a particularly interesting patch of sidewalk with the intensity of a bloodhound on the trail of a rogue gnome. She offered a slight wag of her tail, a silent affirmation of my bravery, no doubt. Or perhaps she had merely found a discarded crumb. It was hard to tell with dogs.
