The walk back home from “The Gilded Cage” felt considerably less epic, a fact that seemed to weigh on Camilo like a sack of particularly unglamorous potatoes. Juliana, meanwhile, was practically vibrating with suppressed laughter. Every time she glanced at her brother, his shoulders slumping slightly, his brow furrowed in a way that suggested he was still mentally dissecting the sheer audacity of the “groomer’s lair,” she had to bite her lip to keep from snorting. Negra, bless her simple, furry heart, trotted along happily, blissfully unaware of the heroic deeds that had just been accomplished, or perhaps, that had not been accomplished in the way Camilo had so meticulously envisioned.

"Honestly, Camilo," Juliana finally managed, her voice laced with a playful tremor, "you'd think we'd just returned from slaying a dragon, not retrieving a… a fluffball from a spa."

Camilo stopped abruptly, causing Negra to bump gently into his leg. He turned, his eyes wide with a feigned indignation that was so over-the-top it was almost beautiful. "Juliana, you wound me! You speak of 'fluffballs' and 'spas' as if 'La Reina' were merely some common house pet. This was a mission of utmost importance! A test of our mettle! Did you not see the sheer… the sheer gravity of the situation?"
